NYPD officers opened fire at a man when he pointed a gun at them in Brooklyn Tuesday, hitting him in the hand, sources say.
Officials say police were searching for a man wanted on a low-level arrest warrant in the area of the Farragut Houses in Dumbo when they encountered the suspect, along with another man.
That other man took out a gun, pointed it at police and "shots were exchanged," officials said in a briefing Tuesday, although police couldn't definitively say whether the man actually fired the gun.
No officer was hurt, but sources told NBC 4 New York earlier that gunfire hit an NYPD car.
The men fled, running into an apartment nearby, on the 200 block of Nassau Street, according to sources.
Officers found the two men in the apartment, and the man who'd fired his gun at cops had a gunshot wound to the left hand, officials said.
He was taken to Kings County Hospital.

The original suspect who'd been wanted on the warrant was not injured, police said.
A gun has not been recovered, police said.
