Woman Struck in Head, Dragged to Car in Sex Attack: Police

A woman was hit in the head, knocked to the ground and dragged to a car in a sex attack on Long Island, police said.

The 25-year-old woman was walking on Porter Street in North Bellmore early Saturday when she was struck on the head with an object and fell to the ground, Nassau County police said.

A man carried her to the back of a black sedan and started to attack her, police said.

She fought back and was able to get away and call 911, police said.

"Make sure you know who's behind you at all times," Nassau County police Detective Lt. Richard Lebrun said. "Always make sure you have a friend with you, carry whistle if you can, be prepared."

The victim was taken to a hospital and released, police said.

"I'm concerned completely," Brian Maloney of North Bellmore said. "I think it's an awareness thing that everyone has to be more aware of what's going on around them."

The suspect is in his 30s and about 6 feet tall, police said. He has a goatee and was last seen wearing blue jeans and a dark sweatshirt.

One neighbor said she was surprised to have heard about such a violent crime in her quiet neighborhood.

"I'm shocked," Debbie Calandrino said. "We've been living here a long time and haven't seen anything like that."

Investigators continue to look for new videos and tips that could lead them to the attacker, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
