Sewage Spill Closes Some Long Island Beaches

Sewage runoff is closing beaches and suspending shellfish harvesting on Long Island.

Nassau County officials say Friday's spill forced them to shut down Centre Island Beach, West Harbor Beach in Bayville and Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Beach in Oyster Bay.

State environmental officials say they've temporarily halted shellfish harvesting in Oyster Bay Harbor and Cold Spring Harbor.

They say the ban will remain in effect until they determine water quality is suitable for the harvest of shellfish for human consumption.
