Fans Redecorate NYC Subway Station in Honor of Prince

Several tributes were posted around the Prince Street station in SoHo.

An aptly named New York City subway station went purple Friday in honor of Prince, who died Thursday at 57.

Fans of the pop superstar plastered the Prince Street subway station in SoHo with tributes Thursday evening and Friday.

In one, fans apparently posted a purple "P" and Prince's logo stylized like subway dots.

Fans also plastered two other above-ground signs with a cutout of Prince's face.

"Forever our Prince," posted one Instagram user who captured the display.

The tributes went underground, too. Fans posted "RIP" over a Prince Street mosaic on one of the platforms.

On another platform, one fan put several purple sticky notes below another one of the mosaics, and another fan placed purple flowers in the seats below.

The MTA eventually removed the tributes from the interior and exterior of the station. A worker was also stationed there to make sure no one else put anything up in honor of the musician.

NBC 4 New York has reached out to the MTA for comment.

[NATL] Prince: A Look Back at a Legendary Career

It was the second day of tributes for Prince in the Big Apple. On Thursday, the Apollo Theater put the artist's name on its marquee and was the site of an impromptu block party that night.

And on Friday, fans were still reminiscing Prince's famous secret concerts. One, at City Winery in SoHo in 2013, brought warm memories for Shlomo Lipetz.

"He's bouncing around the stage and tearing up the stage with a guitar and singing," he said. "In my opinion he was probably the best performer."
