Grand Central Terminal's Lower Level Reopens After Police Find Suspicious Package

Authorities investigated a suspicious package found on the lower level of Grand Central Terminal, briefly closing part of the station and causing delays for commuters and people trying to get away for the long Memorial Day weekend.

MTA spokesman Adam Lisberg says the package was discovered shortly before 9 a.m. Friday at the massive transit hub. The all-clear was issued about an hour later.

The terminal's lower level was shut down for more than an hour while crews investigated the package. They removed the cordons at about 10:15 a.m., according to the MTA.

Several commuters tweeted photos of police and military personnel standing near the entrances to the lower level. That area of the terminal includes a food court and numerous train tracks.

Some Metro-North trains were held in outlying stations because of congestion coming in and out of Grand Central.

No information was available about what the package was or where it was found.
