Video Shows Dog Violently Attacking Girl, 6

A 6-year-old girl was attacked by a dog while walking on a sidewalk in the Bronx Sunday afternoon, and the violent assault was captured on surveillance video.

The girl and her grandmother were walking down Webster Avenue when the dog bolted toward her from across the street, then attacked her, flinging her around the sidewalk, the video shows.

Witness Eduardo Candelier, who works at a nearby tire shop, ran toward the dog to pull it off the girl.

"The dog was biting her," said Candelier. "The girl was crying, she was going crazy."

No one realized the attack was caught on tape until the owner of the tire shop, Fred Paulino, checked his security video Monday morning.

"You can see the dog is walking around with the girl in her mouth," said Paulino.

The girl was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries, including small puncture wounds to her right arm and right leg. She was treated and released.

The dog's owner, who lives near where the girl was attacked, stayed on the scene, police said.

He was issued a summons for having a dog off the leash, but the dog was not taken away.
