Firefighter Seriously Hurt Battling Upper East Side Blaze

Two other firefighters and two civilians suffered minor injuries

A firefighter is hospitalized in serious condition after battling a blaze on the Upper East Side, authorities say.

Two other firefighters and two civilians suffered minor injuries in the fire early Thursday.

More than 100 firefighters responded to the second-alarm blaze that erupted at a five-story building on 88th Street. The blaze started in the basement and quickly spread to the top floor, officials said.

It was brought under control by 7 a.m. Two other firefighters and two civilians suffered minor injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
