Authorities are asking for help finding a student at the College of New Jersey who has been reported missing after her wallet and cell phone were found on the George Washington Bridge.
Paige Aiello, captain of the school's women's tennis team, was reported missing by her parents Wednesday afternoon; they told authorities they had last seen her at about 1 p.m. the day before.
Her family tells NBC 4 New York that Aiello's belongings were found on the GWB Tuesday evening, and that Aiello had taken her mother's Audi.
The Somerset County prosecutor's office, which is assisting in the investigation, said the Audi was found in a parking garage near the train station in New Brunswick late Wednesday. Detectives plan to conduct forensic tests on the vehicle and review NJ Transit surveillance video from the nearby platform.
The family said Aiello, who turned 22 Thursday, attended classes Tuesday before returning to her parents' home in Hillsborough.
According to the school's athletics website, Aiello is a communication major.
"I think everyone's just so shocked and confused," said Cathy Goncalves, a senior at the college.
Authorities searched the Hudson River Wednesday evening and found nothing. The investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information about Aiello is asked to call Hillsborough Sgt. Sean Carolan at (908) 369-4323 or TCNJ police at (609) 771-2345.
