Rachel McAdams Makes a “Vow” With Channing Tatum and the Trailer Looks Dreadful

Rachel McAdams' career has taken such a tortured turn that we literally had to check her IMDB page to remind ourselves why we think she should be a star.

McAdams latest film to drop a trailer is "The Vow," in which she stars opposite Channing Tatum as a woman who awakens from a terrible car accident with no memory of her husband, forcing him to woo her all over again. And judging from the trailer, Scott Speedman makes an appearance as some opportunistic Lothario trying to horn in on the newly "single in her brain" McAdams character.

In 2004/05 McAdams starred in "Mean Girls," "The Notebook" and "Wedding Crashers," she was dating Ryan Gosling...She was poised to make the leap. Then came "Family Stone," a family dra-medy starring Diane Keaton, and things started looking less rosy.

Her next six films were a grab-bag of bad movie, bad box office or bad role--"Red Eye," "Married Life," "The Lucky Ones," "State of Play," "Sherlock Holmes" and "The Time Traveler's Wife"--usually two of the three. And she broke up with Gosling.

She hit what we all hoped was bottom with last year's "Morning Glory," an utterly unoriginal, tired and boring film that was so bad that people were stunned that McAdams' charmed could still manage to come through.

When she was cast in Woody Allen's "Midnight in Paris," we thought, Finally! But as great as the film is, and it is fantastic, McAdams' role was not only very small, but fairly static and uninteresting, leaving her nothing to work with. You could've given that part to any 32-year-old actress and the film would've been just as good.

Next up for her is thew second installment of "Sherlock Holmes," with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, on Dec. 16. But her role in the first film was so small that she almost didn't make it to the sequel. Which brings us to "The Vow," due Valentine's Day (ugh), which from the looks of the trailer is McAdams' new low point.

McAdams' saving grace right now is her as yet untitled Terrence Malick film in which she stars opposite Ben Affleck, which arrives sometime next year. We're gonna go out on a limb and guess this won't be a blockbuster.
