NYC Zumba Party

Get ready for what is expected to be the world’s biggest Zumba dance party.

NYC’s health department hopes that on Sept. 25 – Make NYC Your Gym Day – the city will set the biggest Zumba Party world record. There will be free Zumba dance lessons at 1 p.m. followed by a dance party at 1:30 and finally a yoga cool-down. The event is scheduled to take place at Richmond County Bank Ballpark – the home of the Staten Island Yankees.

Zumba – Spanish slang for “buzz like a bee” – is a Latin-inspired "fitness party" created in the 1990s in Colombia. Zumba incorporates moves and music from hip-hop, salsa and belly-dance as well as other dance and aerobic styles.

So, help set the record while having fun and keeping active – a typical class burns 500 calories. Sign up on Facebook. Record Setter officials will witness and record the event.

Make NYC Your Gym Day is a BeFitNYC initiative to offer free and low-cost activities to New Yorkers.
