New Jersey Nightmare: Brodeur Out 3-4 Months

For years, hockey fans have been wondering how in the world the New Jersey Devils would be able to get along without future Hall of Fame goalie Martin Brodeur in the lineup. Now it looks like we're going to find out.

Here's Tom Gulitti, the Devils beat writer from The Bergen Recordwith the scoop:

Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur will have surgery Thursday morning to repair a torn distal biceps tendon in his left elbow and will miss three to four months, Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello said this morning.

Lamoriello said Brodeur is expected to make a full recovery and should make it back in time for the end of the regular season.

"It could take anywhere from three to four months," Lamoriello said.

The Devils have scheduled a 3:00 p.m. EST conference call to discuss Brodeur's injury, but I think it's safe to say that a team that early on looked like it was a lock for the playoffs now has to consider its season in jeopardy. With Brodeur out, Kevin Weekes started in net for the Devils in a 2-0 loss to the Sabres. Scott Clemmensen was called up from Lowell of the AHL to serve as the backup.

Thanks to Paul Kukla for the pointer. Video of Brodeur suffering the injury is after the jump.
