Feds Blame Tanning as Deadly Skin Cancer Skyrockets

Federal health officials have a warning to sun-loving Americans this summer: Stop tanning! The acting U.S. surgeon general issued that diktat in a grim report out Tuesday that found an alarming 200 percent jump in deadly melanoma cases since 1973 — and blamed a generation of tanning for the billions required to treat all skin cancers every year. "Tanned skin is damaged skin," the surgeon general said, advising Americans to use sunscreen daily and check regularly for changes to moles.
