1 Dead in 2nd Copenhagen Attack Near Synagogue

One of the victims shot outside a synagogue in Copenhagen early Sunday local time has died, Danish police said. Three people were shot, including two police officers, in a shooting in downtown Copenhagen, Danish police said, hours after one person was killed in a shooting at a freedom of speech event hosted by the controversial Swedish cartoonist Lars Vilks. Police said it is too early to tell whether the second shooting is related to the earlier shooting that took place 4 p.m. Saturday (10 a.m. ET) at the café. The gunman in the second shooting fled on foot, police said. There were no fatalities reported, but in the new shooting one person was reported shot in the head and two police officers were struck in the arm and leg. In the earlier shooting, shots rang out at Krudttoenden cafe in the Osterbro district, killing one person and wounding three police officers. The shooting occurred at a freedom of speech event hosted by controversial Swedish cartoonist Lars Vilks, police said. As a manhunt continued for the lone shooter, Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt put the entire nation on high alert and condemned the violence as a "terrorist attack."
