UPDATE: Suspect in Custody in Slashing of Woman on Subway: NYPD
A 71-year-old woman was slashed in the face on a Manhattan subway train Monday morning, authorities said.
The woman was on a northbound D train at the Broadway-Layfette station in the East Village at about 6:50 a.m. when she was randomly slashed on the left cheek, police said.
She was rushed to Bellevue Hospital and is expected to survive, authorities said.
Police released a sketch of the suspect and survelleince video of him fleeing the station after the apparent random attack.
In the video, the man is seen wearing red athletic pants and a black jacket. He trips over the turnstile and falls on the subway floor as he rushes out of the station, the video shows.
He is still at large, cops said.
