Woman Caught With Cocaine Hidden in Coffee at JFK: Authorities

A Jamaican woman faces narcotics smuggling charges after she was allegedly caught with about three pounds of cocaine hidden in coffee at John F. Kennedy International Airport, authorities said.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials say the suspect arrived at JFK on Wednesday after a flight from Montego Bay, Jamaica.

She then went through inspection, where customs officers found a plastic bag of coffee in the woman’s luggage, authorities said.

Officers tested the powder, determined it was cocaine and took the woman into custody, Port Authority Police said.

The three pounds of cocaine have a street value of about $50,000, authorities said.

The woman was turned over to Port Authority Police Department and will face narcotics smuggling charges, authorities said.
