A United Airlines flight from Newark to Geneva was diverted to Logan International Airport in Boston because of a suspicious item found in an unclaimed seat Tuesday night, officials said.
The item -- a camera -- was removed and inspected, and the plane returned to the air around 10:30 p.m., officials said.
United Airlines flight 956 was diverted just after 8 p.m., when someone on board found a camera inside an air sickness bag in an empty passenger seat.
Out of an abundance of caution, airline officials decided to turn the plane around and land in Boston so the item could be fully checked out.
Two fighter jets escorted the plane back to Logan Airport.

The bomb squad and TSA responded, and took the camera to be X-rayed and inspected, officials said.
The passengers reboarded the plane, and resumed their flight to Geneva, Switzerland.
There were 157 customers and 11 crew members on board the Boeing 767, a United Airlines spokesman said.
