NJ Woman Shoots, Kills Retired NYPD Officer: Prosecutors

Bail is set at $700,000 for a New Jersey woman accused of gunning down a former New York police officer.

Virginia Vertetis of Mount Olive Township is charged with murder and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

The Morris County Prosecutor's Office says police on Monday responded to a home on Apollo Way in the Flanders section of the township and found 51-year-old Patrick Gilhuley of Staten Island, N.Y., shot dead.

Vertetis was apprehended and charged.

Acting Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp says Gilhuley retired in 2003 as an officer with the New York City Police Department.

Authorities are not saying how the two knew each other.
