A Long Island woman has been critically injured after jumping off a boat and being struck by its propeller.
Nassau County police say the 34-year-old woman was injured Saturday afternoon in the waterway between Cove Neck and Cold Spring Harbor.
Investigators say the woman was on a boat when a water tube attached to the vessel became untied.
She jumped into the water to retrieve it and was swimming back when the driver switched the boat into reverse.
The woman was struck by the propeller and suffered severe lacerations to her leg.
She was taken by helicopter to the hospital and police say she is in critical but stable condition.
Detectives do not suspect any criminal wrongdoing in the incident, but police have impounded the boat.
