Police Rescue 4 From Capsized Sailboat on Long Island

Police on Long Island say four people have been rescued after their sailboat capsized in the Great South Bay.

Teresa Pinnola, of Islip, and her three cousins from Arizona were sailing in the bay Sunday evening when a part failed and the boat capsized, throwing them overboard, the Suffolk County Police Department said. Witnesses called 911 and Marine Bureau officers responded, pulling three of the four to safety after pulling up to the capsized vessel.

People on a passing vessel picked up the fourth person.

Two of rescued boaters were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
