Gun Control Rally Held in NJ Park

The rally was part of a national event hosted by the newly formed One Million Moms for Gun Control

Dozens turned out for a rally in Jersey City's Lincoln Park Saturday to demand tougher state and federal gun control legislation.

The rally was part of a national event hosted by the newly formed One Million Moms for Gun Control.
State and local officials anchored the protest with calls for action that echoed those of President Obama.

"Banning assault weapons, nobody needs them, no hunter's need them," said Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy. "That ban was in effect up until 2004."

The Lincoln Park gathering was held in conjunction with dozens of other protests across the country, the biggest of which was held in Washington D.C.

One Million Moms for gun control formed in the wake of the school shooting massacre in Newtown, Conn. Those at Saturday's rally in Jersey City said they felt the 27 people killed in Newtown had not lost their lives in vain.
