NJ Teen Dies After Lifting Weights at School

A 17-year-old senior at Passaic County Technical Institute in Wayne collapsed and died after lifting weights during a physical education class, officials said.

Michael Ramos of Paterson collapsed about 11 a.m. Tuesday. Attempts to revive him with CPR and a defibrillator failed.

He was pronounced dead at 11:50 a.m. at St. Joseph's Hospital in Wayne.

He had just put the weights down after completing a set of exercises when he collapsed, witnesses said.

A school official said Ramos was a special needs student enrolled in the school's automotive technology program.

The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office said all indications are that the teen died of natural causes.
