Boy, 14, Dies After Being Stabbed on Newark Street: Prosecutor

A boy has died three days after being stabbed on a Newark street, authorities say.

The 14-year-old victim, Siah Thomas, was stabbed in the area of Avon Avenue and Stratford Place Sunday, March 23, prosecutors say.

He was taken to University Hospital, where he died Wednesday night, according to authorities.

No arrests have been made. Prosecutors are investigating the homicide and are asking anyone with information to contact them at 877-847-7432.

Newark's rising violent crime rate prompted officials to announce in January they'd be hiring 100 police officers. Police department statistics showed Newark topped 100 murders in 2013, the first time that has happened since 2007.

Last Christmas, three teenagers ranging in age from 13 to 15, were shot and killed in front of a Newark home.
