A 29-year-old mom is facing murder charges after her baby was found stabbed to death inside her northern New Jersey apartment, prosecutors say.

Hiralbahen Bhavsar, of Little Ferry, was charged with murder and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose in connection to the horrific incident, Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo announced Friday.

According to the prosecutor’s office, on May 2, at about 8:30 p.m., the Bergen County Public Safety Operations Center (PSOC) received a 911 call from a woman, later identified as Bhavsar, who initially reported she was having a medical emergency at her apartment.

When Little Ferry Police officers responded to the residence they allegedly found multiple family members inside of the apartment. Prosecutors say that while at the scene, Bhavsar emerged from a locked bedroom and confronted the officers.

Upon entering the bedroom, the officers allegedly discovered the lifeless body of an infant who suffered apparent sharp force injuries.

Prosecutors say Bhavsar’s first court appearance has yet to be scheduled.

Attorney information for Bhavsar was not immediately known.
