A garbage truck and car crashed in the Bronx on Saturday, killing a 3-year-old girl on her way to ballet class, a police source said.
Three adults in the silver sedan were injured, police said.
The mother was driving the little girl to ballet class when she swerved to avoid a pothole on the lower level of Bruckner Boulevard, the police source said.
Her Chevy Malibu was rear-ended by the private sanitation truck, then struck a metal station, police said.
The garbage truck landed on the top of the rear passenger side of the car, crushing the girl, witness Ana Trinidad said. She and others stopped to help, but there was nothing they could do, she said.
The mother was hysterical, saying her baby was under the truck, Trinidad said.
The drivers were telling the garbage truck driver to back up, but he appeared to be in shock and got out of the truck to see what happened, Trinidad said.

The girl was identified as Sophia Aguirre of Brooklyn, police said.
The driver of the garbage truck wasn't injured. He remained on the scene and there is no criminality suspected, police said.
