24 Long Island Beaches Closed This Weekend Over Bacteria Concerns

Storm runoff can elevate bacteria levels in the water, so these beaches are being closed as a precaution

It's expected to be a beautiful weekend with temperatures in the high 70s and mostly sunny skies, but those who plan to spend their time at Long Island beaches should know they won't be able to go in the water at two dozen of them.

The health departments of Nassau and Suffolk counties opted to close 24 beaches this weekend as a precaution in the wake of heavy rains that can elevate bacteria levels in the water. About 7 inches of rain fell on Long Island over the last week.
