An Amtrak train derailment in a Queens railroad yard is forcing New Jersey Transit to cancel or combine trains out of New York City, and wire damage in Connecticut is delaying travel for Metro North customers.
As of 7 p.m., NJ Transit commuters were being warned of delays of 10 to 15 minutes out of New York City on the Northeast Corridor, New Jersey Coast and Midtown Direct lines.
Long Island Rail Road is running on or close to schedule out of Penn Station, with residual eastbound delays east of Jamaica of up to 15 minutes.
The Amtrak derailment occurred in Sunnyside Yard, which is owned by Amtrak but also used by NJ Transit. The yard is connected to New York's Penn Station.
Separately, Metro North customers on the New Haven line should anticipate scattered delays of 10 to 15 minutes traveling eastbound and up to 30 minutes traveling westbound due to wire damage in the vicinity of Fairfield.
