Woman With 47 License Suspensions Gets Jailed

A 39-year-old Ocean County woman who's had her driver's license suspended 47 times won't get a shot at number 48, at least for a while.

That's because Melissa Reeves will be spending the foreseeable future in state prison for causing an accident that killed her friend.

A state Superior Court judge handed the Lakewood woman a three-year sentence on Friday. She pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide in the death of Jahamella Johnson.

Reeves was legally drunk when she crashed her car into a pole in Jackson last April, killing Johnson and injuring another passenger.

Authorities say Reeves was driving despite not having had a valid driver's license since 1991. She'd also had a previous drunken driving conviction.
