Temperatures took a nosedive across the tri-state early Thursday following a stormy day that brought strong winds and lightning over parts of the region.
The mercury plummeted as low as 30 degrees in Monticello and midtown Manhattan awoke to temperatures in the low 40s. Highs stalled in the low 50s in midtown Thursday afternoon, and the weathe rremained blustery throughout the day.

Highs Friday will only get into the 50s but wind chills will be in the 40s, making it feel colder, according to Storm Team 4.
Temperatures aren’t expected to rebound until the weekend, Storm Team 4 says. Saturday and Sunday look to be more temperate, with sunshine and temperatures in the low 60s.
The cold front comes after a stormy Wednesday that uprooted trees in some areas. Some of the thunderstorms brought heavy downpours, small hailstones and lighting strikes. Wind gusts in excess of 40 mph battered Middlesex County in New Jersey, where police said power lines had come down Wednesday afternoon, clogging traffic on Route 1.

Closer to the shore, in Westville, the wind ripped a large tree out of the ground and knocked it onto a house; it wasn't clear if anyone was hurt but the damage appeared contained to the roof.
The weather also caused flight disruptions at area airports, including forcing one flight from Paris to make an emergency landing in Boston when it couldn't land at Newark.
