A man walking on a New York City sidewalk was hit and briefly trapped by a falling tree Tuesday afternoon, officials say.
A truck hit the Callery pear tree on Crosby Street, near Broome, in Soho at around noon, knocking it to the ground, according to a spokeswoman for the city's parks department.
A pedestrian became pinned underneath the tree, fire officials said.
A witness tells News 4 he ran over to help the man, who was calling for help from underneath the tree. The victim appeared dazed once he got out but he wasn't bleeding and was conscious.
EMS has transported him to New York Hospital Downtown. His condition was not immediately clear.
The parks department says the tree, which is five inches in diameter, was listed in good condition when it was inspected in 2016.
Last month, falling trees and tree limbs in the city hit and injured two women, one at Central Park and another at City Hall Park. The woman hit at Central Park was knocked out by the tree and remained "completely immobilized" when her attorney announced plans to sue the city for $200 million in the case.
