Vandals Slashed Tires on 40 Cars in Brooklyn: NYPD

About 40 residents of a Brooklyn neighborhood awoke Sunday to discover that the tires on their cars had been slashed overnight.

Surveillance video captured in Sheepshead Bay shows a man walking down the block and methodically bending down at each car's rear tire, apparently striking it.

On Sunday, police could be seen in the area but did not immediately provide information on any investigation.

"It's horrible," said resident Marina Gill. "So many cars damaged. I'm not the only one."

Police said cars' tires were slashed between midnight Saturday and 2 a.m. Sunday between Quentin Road and Avenue S and East 17th Street and Bedford Avenue.

Police said Monday that 21-year-old Eduard Ivashcenko was taken into custody in connection with the slashings. He was later charged with criminal possession of a weapon and criminal mischief.

At a news briefing Monday, NYPD Commissioner Bill Brattton said Ivashcenko lives in the neighborhood.

Attorney information on Ivashcenko wasn't immediately available.

The vandalism comes a day after about 20 cars had their windows smashed in Manhattan's Hamilton Heights.
