Temperatures Warm Up for the Weekend, But Icy Mix of Snow, Rain May Complicate Monday's Commutes

Travel could turn hazardous for yet another Monday morning if an icy mix of snow and rain hits the New York City area as expected.

The wet weather is expected to hit the region around New York City, Fairfield County and Westchester County Sunday into Monday, and if temperatures are below freezing, ice may make roads and sidewalks slippery once again, according to Storm Team 4.

Storm Team 4 is also forecasting between 3 and 6 inches of snow in the areas north of Westchester, with some areas getting even more.

The expected wet weather would follow a few days of relative warmth. Saturday temperatures in the area were above freezing, and Sunday's temperatures were expected to be the same. It was a welcome reprieve for tri-state residents who have been grappling with sub-freezing temperatures and harsh wind chills that have made it feel like the teens outside.

Light snow, along with ice and rain, is expected to begin falling across parts of the area late Sunday afternoon. Precipitation is expected to become steadier over the course of the day.

Monday's high temperature is expected to reach 33 degrees.

Current models don't indicate the storm will be particularly strong, Storm Team 4 says, but the system may carry enough moisture to dump as much as 1 inch of snow and ice on the five boroughs Monday.
