Edwin Thomas was stabbed fatally in the torso by a passenger, police said.

A funeral is being held for a New York City bus driver stabbed to death last week in front of horrified passengers.

Police say 46-year-old Edwin Thomas was driving a B46 bus in Brooklyn when a man boarded through the exit door. They say Thomas denied the man a transfer slip and argued with him before being punched in the head and stabbed.

A 20-year-old man identified by witnesses has been charged with murder. Police say he's confessed to the stabbing.

Thomas' wife says he was a wonderful man who didn't deserve to be killed. Maggy Thomas says her husband of seven years loved his family, particularly his two teenage children.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg praised Thomas for his service to the city.

A viewing was held Sunday in Brooklyn. The funeral Mass is Monday in Queens.
