Putnam County Personal Trainer Accused of Raping Girl, 12

A Putnam County personal trainer is accused of raping a 12-year-old girl he knew three years ago, authorities said Thursday.

Alexandru Hossu, 35, was arrested Wednesday by Putnam County sheriff's investigators. He was arraigned in Patterson Town Court on two counts of first-degree rape.

It was not immediately known if he had an attorney.

The criminal complaint alleges two counts of first-degree rape on the girl twice in October 2010. She is now 15.

Authorities became aware of the case recently after the victim reported the alleged rapes to a school counselor.

Hossu, who worked as a trainer at World Gym in Brewster, was fired from his job this week after his arrest, according to a worker at the gym.

The Putnam sheriff's office investigated the case with the Westchester County District Attorney because the Putnam County DA had a conflict with the suspect.

Records show Hossu once lived in the Southeast, N.Y. home of DA Adam Levy. Levy released a statement Friday saying that he knew Hossu for years and that Hossu had lived with him and his family as a personal trainer, but that the alleged rapes did not happen in their home.

Hossu, who is from Romania, is in the U.S. illegally, the Journal News reports. A federal detainer has been placed on him, which could lead to deportation proceedings.

Levy, 44, is the son of Judy Sheindlin, of TV's "Judge Judy."
