2 Cops Hurt After Newark Chase; 4 Juveniles Arrested

Two officers were hurt, and four juveniles were arrested, after police chased a car linked to a series of robberies in Newark Wednesday morning, authorities say.

The Newark police officers were extracted from their patrol car and taken to University Hospital with minor injuries after the vehicle crashed during the wild chase that began at about 7 a.m.

Police say they began chasing the car -- which had been linked to several robberies Tuesday night -- after spotting it on South Orange Avenue and South 10th Street.

The vehicle eventually lost control and crashed, and the four suspects were cuffed. Each suspect is expected to face multiple charges after they're cleared by medical staff at University Hospital, police say.

Newark Police Director Eugene Venable said the case has been referred to the department's pursuit review board.

"I am following the events of this pursuit carefully and am pleased that the officers will be okay and aren’t seriously injured," he said.
