The winner of a contest to adopt the playful, 4-month-old puppy will soon be revealed.

Joey kept on wagging despite abuse, hunger and severe injuries.

Six weeks ago, he was found in a plastic bag in Brentwood. He had been thrown out of a car.

Gregory Carastro at the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island tells Newsday that Joey is "really happy'' and has "a great spirit.''

The center's Facebook page has thousands of comments from Joey's fans.

They'll have a chance to meet the little floppy-eared pit-bull mix. There's a Fan Appreciation Day on Oct. 7.

The family's big reveal is on Oct. 13 during the Islip Animal Shelter's adopt-a-thon.
