Police Hunt Serial Subway Robber

Suspect wields a knife, police say

Police are looking for a man wanted in connection with seven robberies on New York City subways that occurred in the middle of the afternoon.

In each incident, the suspect approached straphangers with a knife or pretended to have a gun and asked for their wallets and bank card access numbers. One victim was beaten after refusing.

The incidents occurred off and on from January until Sunday on trains in Manhattan and in the Bronx during the mornings or afternoons.

Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly says robberies are down this year and so are crimes in the subways, but he realizes that is no consolation to victims of crime.

Police are urging anyone with information to contact the city's tips hot line.
