A man has been arrested and charged in connection with the shooting death of a 45-year-old woman in the Bronx, police said.
Jonathan Sanchez was arrested Friday morning, police said. The 33-year-old was charged with murder, criminal possession of a weapon, attempted criminal possession of firearm and prohibited use of weapon.
Officers responded to a report of an assault near Yankee Stadium, where they found Araceles Colon with a gunshot wound to her abdomen in Macombs Dam Park, police said. She was taken to Lincoln Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Sanchez allegedly told officers three muggers tried to steal Colon's purse and that they opened fire when he intervened. Authorities say he later changed his story and admitted he shot Colon to death as part of an ongoing domestic dispute.
