Police have arrested a man in connection with an attack on an 85-year-old man on the Upper East Side that happened on Tuesday.
Edwin Suazo, 35, was arrested Sunday, police said. The arresting officers were on a meal break at East 96th Street and York Avenue when they noticed the suspect and apprehended him shortly after 9 a.m.
He was charged with assault in the second degree, police said.
Suazo approached the victim from behind at about 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon and punched him in the side of the head, authorities said.
The victim fell to the ground and suffered gashes to the back of his head and above his right eye. Authorities said Suazo then fled the scene.
The 85-year-old was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in stable condition.
