Man Accused of Trying to Rape Woman in Manhattan Building Stairwell on Thanksgiving

Police have arrested a man they say tried to rape a woman in a stairwell of a public housing project in Manhattan on Thanksgiving.

Dominique Frazier, 31, was arrested Saturday on attempted rape, criminal sex act and robbery charges in connection to the Nov. 26 assault inside the Straus Houses on East 28th Street in Kips Bay.

Authorities allege that the suspect forced the 48-year-old woman into a 17th-floor stairwell in the public housing building, forced her to perform a sex act and then tried to rape her.

Police say that when the woman fought back, the suspect allegedly grabbed her handbag and ran down the stairs.

The woman followed her attacker and was able to get her handbag back with the help of a good Samaritan. The suspect, later identified as Frazier, was able to get away, running into an elevator in the lobby.

The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where she was treated and released.

Police say that Frazier had also been arrested Nov. 9 in connection to a robbery.

Attorney information for the man wasn't immediately available.
