Gunfire Breaks Out Amid Birthday Bash

Gunfire erupts inside a building overnight, leaving one person dead

Gunfire erupted inside a building on Long Island overnight, leaving one person dead.

The victim was a man. The shooting erupted shortly after 12 a.m. Saturday at a building on Jackson Street in Hempstead.

Police taped off blocks on both sides of the crime scene while they tried to figure out what happened.

But it’s not clear what led up to the shooting. Sources told News 4 New York there was a party going on at the time of the shooting, but it’s unclear if the party was connected to the gunfire.

Police said are looking into the possible party connection, as well as other scenarios.

Several police officers were standing guard with large rifles drawn when News 4 New York pulled up to the scene. That would have been hours after the shooting took place.

No arrests were made as of Saturday morning. Police were canvassing the area for a shooter, presuming that shooter is armed.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Hempstead police.
