Alleged Car Thief Arrested in Stabbing, Beating of Woman at New Jersey Home

Police arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with the stabbing and beating of an 18-year-old woman who was found barely alive at her New Jersey home over the weekend, police say.

A car had been stolen from the woman's home after the Franklin Township attack, and detectives traced the vehicle Monday to an apartment building in Edison, where they set up surveillance. Winston Wilson, of Linden, was arrested Monday night at the apartment building and charged with attempted murder.

Prosecutors say they believe Wilson knew the victim and that the attack was targeted. He also faces charges of robbery and unlawful possession of a handgun. It's not clear if he has an attorney.

The woman was attacked Saturday at a home on Vanderbilt Avenue in the Somerset section of Franklin Township. Police responding to a report of a woman with head trauma found the victim outside her home with a serious head injury and stab wounds to her arms and upper body.

Officials said emergency personnel "performed life-saving measures" on the victim and rushed her to an area hospital where she underwent emergency surgery.

Police said the victim had been home alone when she was attacked.
