Gunman Sought in Violent Supermarket Holdup: NYPD

Police are looking for a gunman in a violent supermarket holdup in Brooklyn Sunday evening in which he shoved a gun into a cashier's face and pistol-whipped another as he demanded cash.

The workers  at Ideal Food Basket at 830 Lafayette Ave. in Bedford-Stuyvesant recounted the traumatizing incident exclusively to NBC 4 New York Tuesday.

They said the man walked to the register with chicken patties and he looked at first like he was searching for his wallet.

"He said, 'How much?' I told him how much it was," said one cashier. Then: "He bring the gun in my face and he said, this is a robbery."

The gunman then turned around and began beating another clerk, demanding money, the workers said. Surveillance video shows him apparently pistol-whipping that teen woman working at the register. He got away with $1,600 from the register.

As that was happening, one of the other workers ushered about 20 customers, including two young children, into a meat locker.

"I told all the customers, 'come inside,'" the worker said. "We closed the door shut, completely shut, and the first thing I did was call 911."

The worker who was pistol-whipped was not seriously hurt but she said she does feel some pain.

The manager said the store has not been robbed in 14 years.
