Shootings Investigated in Fort Greene: Sources

Police are investigating two shootings in Brooklyn that left at least two people wounded Friday night, law enforcement sources say.

Sources say a gunman shot someone in the thigh in the area of Park Avenue near Cumberland Walk in Fort Greene and then ran into a public housing building on Cumberland. It's not clear if the victim was also armed or fired any shots.

As the victim ran to Park Avenue for help, two NYPD PSA officers in the Whitman Houses, where the suspect fled, heard three gunshots and encountered the gunman, according to the sources.

At some point, one of the officers opened fire but it's not clear if the gunfire hit the suspect.

The suspect did have a gunshot wound to the shoulder -- but it's not yet clear if it was from the officer or if the gunman was shot earlier.

He was taken to Bellevue Hospital and is expected to be OK, as is other person who was shot.

Police were on the scene Friday night as they investigated, blocking off some streets in the area.
