Livery Cab Driver Punched in Unprovoked Brooklyn Attack: NYPD

A 56-year-old livery cab driver was punched in the face in an apparently unprovoked attack in Brooklyn, police say.

Rafael Grullon was sitting in his car at New Lots Avenue and Ashford Street in New Lots Friday night when a man walked up and hit him, according to the NYPD.

Grullon was taken to Kings County Hospital after the attack and was treated for a black eye and a cut above his eyebrow, police say.

The New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers said that Grullon had to have surgery on his right eye. A spokesman for the union said in a statement that attacks on cab drivers must stop.

It’s the second attack on cab drivers in about a month.

A livery cab driver in Queens was stabbed after getting into an argument with a passenger in late September. That driver survived the attack.
