Boy, 4, Critically Injured in Brooklyn House Fire

A 4-year-old boy was critically injured Tuesday morning after he was trapped during a blaze at the Brooklyn duplex he was visiting, fire officials say.

Firefighters found the boy while responding to the fire at a home in Bath Beach at about 7:15 a.m., according to the FDNY. After the child was rescued, he was taken to Coney Island Hospital.

He has since been transferred to the burn unit at Staten Island University Hospital, family friends said.

Firefighters say they were able to knock down the fire in less than an hour, but a frozen hydrant at the scene initially hampered efforts.

Four other people were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries.

A family friend told NBC 4 New York that the boy was one of four children at the home at the time of the blaze. The friend said the child lived elsewhere but was visiting.
