Tuesday Is Free Cone Day at Häagen-Dazs

If only we could get free ice cream today. Oh, wait -- we can! And so can you. Here's how (Published Tuesday, May 9, 2017)

    Here's the scoop.

On Tuesday, May 9, Häagen-Dazs is giving away free cones in participating stores around the country from 4 to 8 p.m.

According to the ice cream company's website, the day is meant to create some "buzz" about bees, which have been disappearing rapidly over the last decade. Bees are instrumental in creating about one-third of Häagen-Dazs' flavors, including strawberry, rocky road, mango, and even our classic vanilla.

New York and the rest of the tri-state area has a number of Häagen-Dazs destinations. Some include 89 S. St., 53 1/2 Mott St., in Chinatown, 263 Amsterdam Ave., 55C E. 8th St., 109 7th Ave., in Brooklyn, 120 Montague St., in Brooklyn, 1188 First Ave. on the Upper Eastside, 573 Grand Concourse in the Bronx, 30 Mall Drive West in Jersey City, New Jersey, 47 The Promenade in Edgewater, New Jersey, and 7 Backus Ave. in Danbury, Connecticut. Click here for the full list around the tri-state area.

Häagen-Dazs has taken action since 2008 to protect honeybees, donating over $1 million to pollinator research and education. Last year, the company installed a 6.5-mile permanent hedgerow, the largest in the country, for the bees at their almond supplier's farm.

For Free Cone Day, they're asking participants to spead the buzz about the endangered bees.

Ben & Jerry's and Dairy Queen have each hosted a Free Cone Day this year.
