1 Dead, 1 Injured After Being Struck by 2 Cars: Police

One man is dead and another is in serious condition after they ran onto a Manhattan road mid-block and were struck by two cars Tuesday night, police said.

The men tried to run across West 207th Street near Ninth Avenue outside of the painted pedestrian crosswalk when they were struck by a 1999 Ford Explorer that was traveling westbound, according to the NYPD.

Police say the driver of the Explorer hit the brakes, but couldn't stop, hitting both pedestrians and throwing them into the eastbound lanes where they were struck by a 2004 Toyota sedan.

One of the men, a 24-year-old, was run over by the driver's side tires and the other man, a 35-year-old, was struck by the driver's side fender.

The two were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital where the 24-year-old was pronounced dead on arrival and the 35-year-old is in serious condition.

Both vehicles remained on scene and no arrests were made. Police did not immediately release the identities of the victims.
