It wasn’t exactly the nonstop flight they signed up for.
American Airlines Flight 24 from SFO to JFK made an emergency landing in Wyoming Monday, after the flight crew smelled a smoky odor in the cockpit.
The New York bound flight was diverted to the Casper airport about two hours after take off, around 10;30 a.m.

American Airlines spokesperson Tim Smith told a Wyoming newspaper, “When we get something we are not sure of we always play it conservatively.”
The airline says the cause of the odor, which they described as a "smoky, electrical smell," was a defective computer display screen in the cockpit.
Wyoming’s Casper airport does not carry American Airlines, but the Salvation Army was on hand to serve stranded passengers a hot meal.
One passenger named Andrea tweeted, “made emergency landing in Casper, Wy., on AA flight 20. waiting to see if they can fix the smoke in the cockpit- hope so!!”
Nearly three hours after the unexpected detour, passengers were able to re-board after mechanics gave the crew the all clear.
