Coney Island Mermaid Parade
The Mermaid Parade celebrates the sand, the sea, the salt air, and the beginning of summer, as well as the history and mythology of Coney Island. This year King Neptune will be Harvey Keitel (yes, THE Harvey Keitel) and Queen Mermaid is Daphna. Special Appearances include recording artists They Might Be Giants and performers from Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey’s Boom A Ring. The Mermaid Parade Ball 2009 is afterwards at Dreamland Roller Rink. The parade is rain or shine.
Saturday, June 20. 2 p.m. Starts at West 21st Street and Surf Avenue.

Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival
The Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival 2009 is back for its fifth year and is even bigger. The festival is a celebration of Hip-Hop music and culture. Main performances include Pharoahe Monch, DJ Premier
, Torae and Marco Polo
, DJ Misbehaviour
, Metermaids, and more. Special guests are Tanya Morgan Homeboy Sandman, Kel Spencer, and Chip Fu.
Saturday, June 20. Free. 12-8 p.m. Empire Fulton Ferry State Park, 1 Main Street.

Brooklyn Flea
Thhe Brooklyn Flea takes place in Ft. Greene on Saturday and its historic Brooklyn Bridge location on Sunday. Both locations feature a great mix of vintage, antiques, jewelry, and food.
Saturday, June 20. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School, Lafayette Avenue between Clermont and Vanderbilt Avenues. Sunday, June 21. 11 a.m.-6 p.m. In Dumbo underneath the Brooklyn Bridge at the corner of Water and New Dock Street.
