Van Valkenburg Doubles Down in Brooklyn

In what appears to be a vote of confidence in the future of Brooklyn Bridge Park, the project's landscape designer, Van Valkenburg Associates, is moving from its Union Square offices to 16 Court Street, just a few blocks from the new waterfront park. According to The Observer, the 30-person office will occupy the entire 11th Floor at the SL Green-owned tower overlooking Borough Hall. So what prompted the move? In addition to the proximity to Brooklyn Bridge Park, it turns out that most of the firm's employees live in Brooklyn and, as of last summer, so does Mr. Van Valkenburgh and his wife. They paid $3,400,000 for a fourth floor apartment at the tony One Pierrepont Street. There's hope for all the struggling landscape architects out there after all! GMAP
